Zodiac’s Review
29 December, 07

There’s a new Zodiac’s review, made by Nathaniel Jonet:

“There?€™s something about killers we are drawn to, serial killers in particular.? For whatever reason; our bourgeois thirst for the macabre, our innate voyeurism, or the search to understand the darkness inside ourselves; we take special note of them.? Bundy, Gacy, Gein, Dahmer, and the Zodiac killer, to only name a few.? These are only a few names which we inscribe on the blood-soaked walls of our alleys with our reverence and remembrance.? And now there?€™s one more movie out on DVD about one from this cadre of the morbid.

Starting this January 8th, the 2-Disc Director?€™s Cut of Zodiac will be available on DVD from Warner Brothers and Paramount Pictures.? This DVD is well worth the wait, and far more excellent than the regular version which shown in theaters and was available early exclusively through Blockbuster. Zodiac is the story of the famed Zodiac serial killer and his reign of terror over San Francisco.? This tale looks behind the scenes at the cops and newspaper writers who helped to define this crisis, deal with the murders, and go on to investigate the murders after the case fell apart.? Superior acting by Jake Gyllenhaal, Robert Downey Jr., and Mark Ruffalo sells this movie and makes it seem more like the original event than a re-creation.

Special features on this two-disc Director?€™s Cut take a terrific movie and make it into an unforgettable one.? There is an available commentary by Director David Fincher and also a commentary by many actors from the movie including Jake Gyllenhaal, Robert Downey Jr., Brad Fischer, James Vanderbilt and James Ellroy.? There is a previsualization feature which allows you to compare between the animatics and the finished film version of each of the three murder sequences.? Also included are a featurette about the visual effects of the film, a featurette about the main suspect in the case, and a full length documentary about the investigation into the murders of the Zodiac killer.

Zodiac is a smart thriller, a fun film made spectacular through great writing, the truth of life, and stellar acting.? Zodiac should not be missed.
