Founded in the United States in 1998, ARO is managed and operated as a primarily volunteer effort, by Afghans and Americans of varied backgrounds and faiths. ARO has distributed food, medicine, hygiene supplies, school supplies and winter relief supplies (blankets and clothing). It now provides education to over 800 youth and adult students. In Dec 2007 the charity ran an auction of traditional Afghan kites signed by celebrities including Will Ferrell, Natalie Portman, Angelina Jolie, Daniel Craig, Madonna, and Maggie and Jake Gyllenhaal.

American Civil Liberties Union

The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) is an American organization consisting of two separate entities. The ACLU Foundation is a non-profit organization that focuses on litigation and communication efforts, whereas the American Civil Liberties Union focuses on legislative lobbying and does not have non-profit status. The ACLU's stated mission is "to defend and preserve the individual rights and liberties guaranteed to every person in this country by the Constitution and laws of the United States." It works through litigation, legislation, and community education. Founded in 1920 by Crystal Eastman and Roger Baldwin, the ACLU was the successor organization to the earlier National Civil Liberties Bureau founded during World War I. The ACLU reported over 500,000 members at the end of 2005. Jake is always supporting ACLU causes, and attending events related to the organization.

Variety, the Children's Charity

The U.S chapters of Variety - The Children’s Charity, known as the “Heart of Show Business,” are a multi-million dollar philanthropic organization with 27 chapters located in 19 States. Starting with a small baby left on the doorsteps of a movie theater in 1928, we have continued to be a group of local business men and women, many of whom hail from the theater and movie business, reaching out to children in need. Today, through the efforts of our enthusiastic volunteers and generous corporate contributors, we remain true to our heritage by bringing children real, tangible help.
