Nailed Shuts Down for Third Time
27 May, 08

First, James Caan walked off the set of David O’Russell’s Nailed. Now, according to Variety, the entire production has shut down due to financial problems, which leaves both Jake Gyllenhaal and Jessica Biel without a job until further notice.

This is the third time the production has been put on hold. IATSE leaders instructed below-the-line crewmembers not to show up last Thursday when they were not paid. A person close to the project insists that the project will in fact start back up again sometime next week.

The film is scheduled to wrap sometime in June, but its future is murky at best.

Jake Gyllenhaal crowned ‘Prince of Persia’
20 May, 08

Jake is reportedly involved in a new project. Check this out:

Jake Gyllenhaal and Gemma Arterton will star in “Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time,” Walt Disney Pictures and Jerry Bruckheimer Films’ adaptation of Ubisoft’s popular video game. Mike Newell is directing.

In the fantasy adventure, Gyllenhaal will play Dastan, a young prince in sixth century Persia who must join forces with Tamina (Arterton), a feisty and exotic princess, to prevent a villainous nobleman from possessing the Sands of Time, a gift from the gods that can reverse time and allow its possessor to rule the world.

Doug Miro & Carlo Bernard, Jordan Mechner and Boaz Yakin wrote the script, which is based on the many games created by Jordan Mechner.

Bruckheimer is producing, while Mike Stenson, Chad Oman and Patrick McCormick are exec producing.

Production is set to start in July.

Gyllenhaal will next appear in Jim Sheridan’s “Brothers” with Tobey Maguire. He is repped by CAA and Management 360.

British actress Arterton is relatively new on the film scene but is already generating heat for her work in Guy Ritchie’s upcoming “RocknRolla” and the new James Bond movie, “Quantum of Solace.” She is repped by Independent Talent Group.

Although Reese’s reps had no comments and Jake’s people denied it, OK! Magize’s cover story features “Jake & Reese’s wedding plans”.

Friends of the pair say it won’t be long now before Jake pops the question to his lady love. “They’ve been talking marriage for a while,” a source close to Reese reveals to OK!. “They’ll be formally engaged any day now. They want to spend the rest of their lives together.”

Read all about it here or on the new edition of the magazine.

Wether or not this is true, we can’t confirm it, but we’ll keep you posted.

‘Nailed’ resumes filming after pay dispute
13 May, 08

The filming of “Nailed,” the movie starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Jessica Biel being shot around Columbia, resumed today after a pay dispute shut down shooting over the weekend, the S.C. Film Commission said.

The Screen Actors Guild on Friday pulled its members, including Gyllenhaal and Biel, after film producers did not keep enough money in accounts to pay actors, The New York Times reported today.

Filming resumed today, said Kara Borie, a spokeswoman for the S.C. Film Commission. She would not confirm any of the other details of the Times report.

She referred questions to the film’s publicist, who said no statements were being made at this time.

The determination of cash rebates — part of the S.C. incentive packages offered to productions bringing in more than $1 million — given “Nailed” will be based on an audit to be completed by the Film Commission within 30 days of the final wrap of the film, Borie said.

Shooting in Columbia is at about the half-way point. It began in mid-April and is expected to finish in about a month.

Efforts by the Times to reach David Bergstein, a principal of Capitol Films, which is helping to back the movie, over the weekend were unsuccessful.

Word of the production’s troubles was first reported on Deadlinehollywooddaily.com.

‘Nailed’: Shut Down
11 May, 08

The Screen Actors Guild has ordered the closing of the production of Nailed in South Carolina.
From Deadline Hollywood Daily:

I’m told by knowledgeable sources that David O. Russell’s indie political comedy Nailed which began filming in April was shut down by the Screen Actors Guild on Friday because of insufficient funds on deposit with the guild. I’ve also learned the Columbia, S.C. shoot is in trouble with both IATSE and Teamsters, and some of those union members have left the beleaguered $25 million budgeted production. Rumors also are circulating that the state of South Carolina could withdraw its incentive monies because of the financing problems. Filmmakers hope to resolve the cash crunch and re-start shooting next week since principal photography is only at the halfway point. “I am confident we will finish,” an insider on the pic just told me. “The financing on this like most indies is based on bank loans and bridge loans. This is a matter of waiting on the bridge loan. Hopefully, it will all be resolved.”

GYLLENHAAL PLANS RESTAURANT VENTURE
25 April, 08

Closet chef JAKE GYLLENHAAL is developing a new organic restaurant venture with top cook CHRIS FISCHER.

Sources claim the movie star once promised himself he’d open a top-end eatery if his acting career took off by the time he was 30. He’s 27. And Gyllenhaal, who has made regular appearances on top chef Mario Batali’s hit U.S. cookery show Molto Mario, is getting serious about cooking up a restaurant.
A pals tells America’s Life + Style magazine that Gyllenhaal and pal Fischer are looking at real estate in Los Angeles - with a view to opening their own place.

The insider says, “Cooking is his (Gyllenhaal) big hobby and his passion.” Reports suggest Gyllenhaal is even planning a summer vacation cycling tour of food-lovers mecca Tuscany, Italy with his girlfriend Reese Witherspoon - to seek inspiration for his new restaurant.

He’ll be the latest in a long line of Hollywood stars who have opened restaurants - Morgan Freeman, Sandra Bullock, Jeri Ryan, Ashton Kutcher and Tara Reid are just some of the celebrities who have tasted success as restaurateurs. [NY Daily News]

Agent provocateur
22 February, 08

Celebrity can be a straitjacket or a crown, depending on the disposition of the celebrated. For Jake Gyllenhaal, no stranger to the dossiers of the paparazzi and Tinseltown, pictured here and there hand-in-hand with his current co-star, Reese Witherspoon, it is worn lightly and flaunted when necessary.

His latest film is Rendition, as unwavering a political statement as Brokeback Mountain was a cultural one.

As with the Oscar-winning Brokeback, in which Gyllenhaal co-starred with the late Heath Ledger, Rendition is about a practice whose name can scarcely be spoken, although in this case, that is by government decree.

The practice is extraordinary rendition: state-sponsored kidnapping of suspected terrorists, the state being America, and the abductees not always terrorists….read more
